Corel WordPerfect Suite 7 - A Bundle of JoyYou may have noticed that our systems are now bundled with Corel WordPerfect Suite 7. Although we have installed this product for others in the past it was not yet available to us here in the office. Having used other WordPerfect products for the past 15 years or so, I am hardly biased here, however, I must say that I am impressed. This is actually fun! For the uninitiated, WP Suite 7 includes Win95 versions of WordPerfect, Quattro Pro, WP Presentations, CorelFlow, SideKick, plus tons of ClipArt and other utilities. For a brief moment I was lost looking at the maze of all those new "Windows" controls. Icons, tool bars, pull down menus (which of course HAVE to be different from whatever the last version you just finished learning used). It only took a week or so, however, to start feeling at home here though. I like the automation of common functions and the several levels of help available. On the "let me do that for you" level you get an extensive number of predefined QuickTask's. These smart macros take control of the keyboard for you, get input as required, and then quickly generate completed documents which you can then save, print, or revise later as desired. There is also the "let me help you do that" level formerly called Coaches. This level holds your hand and let's you learn for yourself how to do things. Next you can ask "how do I .." by clicking on the PerfectExpert icon (or click Help, then click Ask the PerfectExpert) to bring up a screen that allows you to type in everyday English questions. A list of possible matches from the help system is then presented. After that you just click on the applicable help screen to get the job done step by step. The "show me how" level is covered by multimedia tutorials on the CD-ROM, as well as in the Quick Results printed manual. And finally, "everything you never wanted to know" is covered in the Reference Center on the CD-ROM. Each program is covered by a electronic manual, 600 pages for WordPerfect alone, 450 or so for Quattro Pro. The Envoy viewer is put to good use to display this material. Cool, Eh! And I didn't even mention the new Quickspot and other features! Maybe next month .. [ Jan 97 ] [ SSDirect Home ] Please address comments to rdavies@ssdirect.com.
