NOTICE: You are receiving this message because[someone] subscribed to one of [product]'s newsletters. This is a special announcement, and you will not receive any further scheduled email on this topic [.. right ..].

It's called Push Technology, and these products are just the first baby steps into this new internet facility. And for now at least they are free services. You tell the [product] what your area's of interest are, and they send down the information (and advertising) that will most likely be of interest. Basically, the idea is to provide an electronic magazine that will attract readership so they can sell advertising space to their sponsors (or for themselves). Here are just a few of the new such sites that I find interesting:

  • home.microsoft.com - Microsoft: venerable service which most IE users have seen before. It's the default home page after initial installation.
  • www.msnbc.com - Microsoft: newer project offering NBC news feed and services.
  • home.snap.com - C|Net: new e'zine format news/services.
  • my.excite.com - Excite: new add-on to popular search engine (My Excite Channel).

Getting Yourself Onto the Internet

www.yourname.com. Want to create your own DIY website for the internet? Can you use a word processor? HTML isn't much more difficult than just typing in the text and then adding simple markers, or 'tags', to indicate to your internet browser where the headings, paragraphs, and other special formatting elements belong. And there is SO much help available over the internet..
