I am a computer magazine junkie. As a newbie I poured over Byte, PC Magazine, and other computer magazines - mostly memorizing all the mouth-watering advertising for great computer systems and products. When I moved my family to our current location, several boxes containing precious past issues of computer magazines graced the rear of  the 24 foot moving van. For a while I also subscribed to a quarterly CD-ROM version of a computer magazine. I have, however,  since discontinued subscriptions to these magazines. Why? Most of this information is readily available for 'free' over the internet (assuming you already have an internet capable computer).

• Byte Online (www.byte.com/).
• CNET.com (www.cnet.com/) a little less magazine than online system, but has great articles for starter to advanced users. Also featuring custom feature pages, such as
  • DOWNLOAD.COM (www.download.com),
  • NEWS.COM (www.news.com),
  • BROWSERS.COM (www.browsers.com), etc.
• PC World (www.pcworld.com/current_issue/) online computer magazine.
• The Computer Paper (www.tcp.ca) I used to pick this paper at the corner store for free. But, the free distribution is only available in larger centers across Canada. So I subscribed for $25/yr. Now I can check it out on my computer.

• Wired News (www.wired.com/news/) and
  Wired Magazine (www.wired.com/wired/).

• ZDNet featuring
  • PC Magazine (www.zdnet.com/pcmag/),
  • PC Computing (www.zdnet.com/pccomp/), and
  • PC Week (www.zdnet.com/pcweek/) online computer magazines.

Newsletters ..

• TipWorld (www.tipworld.com/) not a magazine, but sends useful email news/tips/gossip links on various user-selected topics. If you are lonely and like LOTS of email, try this service out.
  • TIP: most of the online magazines listed above also will be overjoyed to send you an email 'newsletter' - just fill out the online form on the main pages. Great, even MORE email!
